Slokas for Kids

Every one wants to educate kids about their religion, culture and values through 'Slokas'.I would like to teach my daughter sloka's, mantra's and sanskrit bhakthi songs..Kids grasp things quickly. They learn very fast and easily even at the age of 2.Lot of people think kids can not learn complicated slokas when they are young. But this is completely wrong, atleast from my personal experience. My daughter picked up the slokas very easily when she was 2 1/2 year old . In fact, it is more dificult now (she is 6 now) for her to learn new sloaks / rhymes as her interests are completely different. Now a days she is busy playing outside with her friends. At the age of 3 my daughter use to chant all these slokas.

Shuklaambara Dharam Vishnum
Shashi Varnam Chatur Bhujam
Prasanna Vadanam Dhyaayet
Sarva Vighna Upashaanthaye

We meditate on Lord Ganesha - one who is clad in white, representing purity, who is all pervading , whose complexion is gray like that of ash, who has four arms, who has bright countenance, and who can destroy all obstacles in all the endeavours that we undertake.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gurur Brahmaa, Gurur Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshvaraha.
Gurur Sakshaat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shree Gurave Namaha.

The Guru, the teacher, is like Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshvara. Guru is the visible incarnation of supreme divinity, therefore I bend my knees to that Guru.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vakratunda Mahakaaya, Suryakoti Samaprabha.
Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva, Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada.

O Lord Ganesha !
You, of the large body and curved trunk, with the luster of a million suns, please remove all obstacles from my path.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shantakaaram Bhujaga Shayanam Padmanaabham Suresham
Vishaawadharam Gagana Sadrusham Meghavarnam Subhaangam.
Laxmikaantam Kamalanayanam Yogibhir-Dhyaanagamyam,
Vande Vishnum Bhavabhaya Haram Sarvalokaika Naatham.

Oh, Lord Vishnu!
Lord, of peaceful appearance, resting on the serpent, with a lotus from a navel, you are the lord of lords.
You are the basis on the whole universe, vast like the sky, colored as the cloud, every limb of you is auspicious,
Beloved of Laxmi, lotus eyed, capable of being reached through meditation by yogis.
We bow to you, the lord of all worlds, Vishnu.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lakshmim Ksheera Samudra Raaja Tanayam
Sree Ranga Dhaameshvarim
Daasi Bhootha Samasata Deva Vanithaam
Lokaika Deepankuram
Sreeman Manda Kataaksha Labdha Vibhavat
Brahmendra Gangaadharam
Tvaam Trailokya Kudumbineem
Sarasijaam Vande Mukunda Priyaam

Goddess Lakshmi, who is the daughter of the king of the ocean of milk, whose abode is Srirangam, who is served by all the divine ladies in heaven, who is the guiding light of the world, who has obtained the everlasting glance from Brahma, Indra and Shiva, who lives in the three worlds (Bhu, Bhuva, Suvaha), one who is dear to Mukunda (Krishna) - I offer my salutations to you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sri Rama Rama Rameti Rame Rama manorame
Sahasranama tat tulyam Rama nama varanane

The meaning of this shloka is that chanting the name of Sri Rama even once is equivalent to saying the Vishnu Sahasranama a thousand times (As stated by Lord Siva to Parvati). Therefore, the advice is to chant at least this one line if one cannot find time to chant the whole of the Vishnu Sahasranama.
Mahalakshmi ashtothram
